Bonbon el Perro (Bonbon the dog)
Director: Carlos Sorin.
Easy for the film industry to forget that there is more to Argentina worth filming than only their capital city. This film however is based in the southern region of Patagonia. A feel good movie. Very simple story of an middle aged man who hit bad times in Argentina and follows his truggle to make ends meat with the help of his dog. Truly brilliant.

Humorous film about a young and successful, newly wed surgeon who is abandoned by his wife.

Spain / Argentina

Elsa y Fred
Director: Marcos carnivale

Excellent story of late love between two neighbours, youthful 82 year old Elsa and the resignful Fred in his late 60´s.

Chile

El Fiebre de Locos (Crazy fever)
Director: Andres Wood
From the same director as Manchuca. Curious story based in an isolated southern Chilean fishing community.

Mexico / United States

Pan y Rosas (Bread and Roses)
Director: Ken Loach
Starring: Adrien Brody
The English director deals with the theme of exploitation of illegal immigrants in the United States. Very good film with a strong social message about the developed world.

Columbia

La Vendedora de Rosas (The rose seller)
Director: Victor Gaviria
Difficult film which follows the life of a 13 year old girl on the streets of Bogata. A case of fiction mirroring reality as in true life the girl actually did live on the streets until she tragically died soon after the making of the movie while involved in a shop robbery .
