A Recommended Read I

For whom the Bell Tolls - Ernest Hemmingway
An amazing novel that is set in the midst of the Spanish Civil War. Hemingways best.

Siesta - The Sun also Rises - Ernest Hemmingway.
This is the book that made Pamplona´s San Fermin festival world famous for the annual running of the bulls through the city streets.

A Homage to Catalonia - George Orwell.
Deals with the Civil War in which Orwell himself fought on the opposite side to Franco.

South from Granada - Gerald Brenan.
English World War II veteran who went to live in Spain in 1919, before the arrival of roads or public telephones to the country. A study of Spain which investigates everything from brothels to courting and farming practices.

The Last Jew - Noah Gordon.
Novel set in 1492 expulsion of all Jews and Muslims from Spain. Has won awards for historial accuracy in a fictitious novel. All Andalucians swear by it.

Tales of the Alhambra - Washington Irving.
Fictitious tale which brings back to life the Alhambra, the most magnificent of the Moorish Palaces and last outpost of the Moors to fall.
